JUSTIN TRUDEAU: HOW TO ENRAGE THE LEFT AND THE RIGHT
In the instant when Justin Trudeau offered his insipid criticism of the long-gun registry, he angered both sides of the political spectrum. And that’s not easy to do.
He is causing much left-wing hand-wringing in Quebec to distraught anti-gun advocates. At the same time, some right-wing pro-gun advocates might be tempted to suddenly embrace Pierre Lite for appearing to come to his senses. Here’s why the Canadian Shooting Sports Association refuses to take the bait.
Pierre Lite is a transparent opportunist who lacks the consistency of a seasoned political pro. Justin’s claim that the Liberals need to exploit Canada’s youth to kick-start the party has sent 63-year-old Marc Garneau into spin dry mode. Following his own elite childhood, Justin is a self-professed firearms expert because he played with the handguns of RCMP officers who stood guard over his then-prime ministerial father. And, when Justin was employed as a teacher, he allegedly protected his students by carrying a .30-06 on a field trip in polar bear country.
Consider his musings during a recent media scrum: “The long-gun registry, as it was, was a failure and I’m not going to resuscitate that.”
"As it was."
He’s left the door open to create an altered registry, probably to placate the Liberals who are currently sharing a collective heart attack. The left-wing mass infarction is playing out because Justin said firearms are an “important facet of Canadian identity.” At least he got that part right.
The Toronto Sun reported on December 3 that Justin’s revisionist handlers plan to develop “a new approach” in the wake of the Liberals’ failure to save the registry and its data. Even worse, during a Hawkesbury, Ontario whistle-stop Justin told reporters, “But we will continue to look at ways of keeping our cities safe and making sure that we do address the concerns around domestic violence across the country in rural as well as urban areas.”
Be afraid. His penchant to suck ‘n’ blow according to his geographical location carries two different messages. It smacks of the short-sighted urban protectionists who want to close ranges, ban ammo sales within city limits, and put outdoors magazines on the high shelf beside the porn. Trudeau tries to make us believe he recognizes that sport shooters are not the bad guys, yet he sounds willing to handcuff the innocent. Let’s not forget he voted 17 times to retain the long-gun registry he suddenly wants to abandon.
Isn’t this the same guy who cut and pasted the image of a non-restricted Tavor TAR-21 from Canada Ammo’s web site and tweeted (read: warned) it is an example of a gun that would no longer be tracked when the registry is scrapped? He still distinguishes between good vs. bad guns to highlight his wholesale ignorance of sport shooting. Justin’s hysteria fell on deaf ears then, as does his half-fast condemnation of the registry now.

QUEBEC ATHLETE WINS GOLD WITH STEADY HANDS : Jean-Philippe Le Guellec became the first Canadian to reach the podium at a men's biathlon World Cup on Saturday and he did it in style. He won gold with a stunning effort in a sport that is traditionally dominated by European athletes...
Le Guellec, a native of Shannon, Que., finished the 10-kilometre sprint in 25 minutes 10.4 seconds after shooting clean. The previous best men's World Cup result by a Canadian was a sixth-place finish by Glen Rupertus in 1993.
Le Guellec wasn't affected by the challenging shooting conditions that left most of the international field struggling. "I was just trying to stay focused on skiing and stay relaxed," said Le Guellec...
Zina Kocher of Red Deer, Alta., — the only other Canadian to reach the podium in a biathlon World Cup in the past two decades — finished 10th in the women's 7.5-kilometre sprint. She finished in 22:20.2 with one missed shot, well back of Norway's Tora Berger. Ukraine's Olena Pidhrushna won silver and Russia's Olga Vilukhina earned bronze.
Le Guellec, 27, credits his support staff for keeping him calm and focused during his triumphant run. "My coach said to me, 'The day you'll be on the podium is the day you'll expect it the least. Just go out there and do what you do - ski smooth, stay relaxed, and shoot every target one at a time,'" he said. "That is exactly what I did today. The first lap I started to tense up a bit, but I told myself to just have fun, be relaxed and stay smooth. Those were the key words for the whole race. (Vancouver Sun – December 1, 2012)

BERNARDO SAYS JUSTIN’S “ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS” : The Canadian Sports Shooting Association (sic) is calling foul on Justin Trudeau's gun registry pivot. It says the Montreal Liberal MP is pandering to gun owners by calling the registry “a failure” now he's running for leadership.
“His actions speak louder than words,” spokesman Tony Bernardo said Sunday. “He voted to retain the registry. His party has never shown any remorse for the 15 years of slight that it's given the two million firearms owners in Canada. What reason do we have to believe the leopard's changed its spots?”
On Twitter Sunday, both NDP principal secretary Karl Belanger and Tory Sen. Doug Finley also raised eyebrows at Trudeau's registry voting record in the House. Trudeau's spokeswoman, Kate Monfette, said Sunday Trudeau and his party fought to maintain the registry “given the absence of any responsible approach to gun violence by this government. We were not successful in that fight, the registry and its data are gone, so we now have to develop a new approach.”
During a campaign stop in Hawkesbury,Ont., on Friday, Trudeau said: “I see that the long-gun registry, as it was, was a failure and I am not going to resuscitate that. But we will continue to look at ways of keeping our cities safe and making sure that we do address the concerns around domestic violence across the country in rural as well as urban areas.”... FORMER LIB MINISTER ROASTS JUSTIN IN PUBLIC : Liberal leadership front-runner Justin Trudeau is coming under fire from a former Liberal justice minister over his claim that the long-gun registry was a failure.
Martin Cauchon, who is still pondering whether to run for the leadership himself, says candidates should have the backbone to stand up for Liberal principles and values. And he says the controversial registry, created by the government of Jean Chretien, is an important Liberal value...
Cauchon acknowledges there were some problems getting the registry off the ground initially, but it was working well by the time Harper scrapped it. He says he believes a Liberal government should re-create a registry for shot guns and rifles. (The Canadian Press - December 3, 2012)

SURPRISE! NDP ACCUSES JUSTIN OF PANDERING : Liberal leadership candidate Justin Trudeau is drawing fire for comments denouncing the long-gun registry as a “failure,” despite his previous votes to keep the registry...
The comments have been criticized by political opponents, who say the Montreal MP is pandering to different groups in his attempts to become Liberal leader. Public Safety Minister Vic Toews said that Mr. Trudeau “had years to work” with the Conservatives if he really wanted to end the long-gun registry. Mr. Trudeau “says one thing in rural Canada, another in the House,” Mr. Toews tweeted.
In 2010, Mr. Trudeau voted against a private member’s bill that would have scrapped the federal long-gun registry. NDP House Leader Nathan Cullen called Mr. Trudeau’s remarks “pandering” and called on him to explain the apparent flip flop. “I was in Quebec over the weekend, and there was some discussion about which version of Trudeau they are seeing now,” he said Monday. “We see a change of tune in the middle of a leadership race – that’s something for Mr. Trudeau to answer.”...
Mr. Trudeau made the comments in response to a question while visiting an aerospace plant in Hawkesbury, Ont. “We will continue to look at ways of keeping our cities safe and making sure that we do address the concerns around domestic violence that happen right across the country, in rural as well as urban areas in which, unfortunately, guns do play a role,” he said. “But there are better ways of keeping us safe than that registry which is, has been removed.”
Last month, Mr. Trudeau apologized for comments he made in a 2010 interview, where he blamed Canada’s problems on Albertans controlling the agenda. In that controversial interview, Mr. Trudeau said that “Canada isn’t looking good because it’s Albertans who are controlling our community and social-democratic agenda. It’s not working.” He suggested the most important prime ministers in the recent history of Canada were also Quebec MPs, mentioning his father and successors Brian Mulroney, Jean Chrétien and Paul Martin. WILL OBAMA USE SECOND TERM TO BAN GUNS? : An anti-gun owner initiative considered in Washington could lead to massive civil disobedience and a severe domestic crisis, gun law expert John M. Snyder warned on Friday.
"According to confidential information," he said, "forces linked with the administration suggest the government classify semiautomatic firearms and multiple capacity ammunition feeding devices as Title 2 National Firearms Act items under the Gun Control Act of 1968. Americans familiar with federal gun laws understand that under this scenario, semiautomatics and high capacity magazines could be acquired only with great difficulty and at great expense by America's estimated 100 million law-abiding firearms owners, notes Snyder.
According to Snyder and other gun ownership advocates, the Obama administration long ago realized it would have insurmountable difficulty getting a semiautomatic gun ban, such as that considered by Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) and others, passed Congress, especially when the House is controlled by defenders of the Second Amendment... (The Examiner.com – November 28, 2012)
